A ‘Framework for Thinking About Problems’

Nicholas Summers learned a great deal at Maryland Smith, and he taught others a thing or two, mostly in the area of applied cloud computing. This month, as Summers prepares to graduate from Maryland Smith’s Business Analytics M.S. program, he’s been reflecting on the most important things he’s learned in his five years at Smith, specifically, lessons about how to self-teach and self-motivate. “[Even] beyond college you will have to continually learn,” he says.

Smith Day Goes Virtual

Maryland Smith Terps came together, virtually, this week to celebrate being part of the Smith community during the fourth annual Smith Day. On Thursday, students, faculty, staff and alumni from College Park, Smith’s regional campuses and around the world tuned in virtually for the daylong festivities.

Prabhudev Konana Is Named Dean of Robert H. Smith School of Business

The University of Maryland has named Prabhudev Konana, Ph.D., Dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, effective January 2, 2021. In this role, he will lead Smith in its mission to create knowledge, promote an inclusive learning environment that fosters intellectual discovery, and equip current and future leaders to assess complex problems and deliver innovative solutions.

Maryland Smith Welcomes UMD President Pines

Darryll J. Pines officially takes the helm of the state of Maryland’s flagship university on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, becoming the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park, and continuing a career of leadership and excellence. At the Robert H. Smith School of Business, his appointment to the university’s top job, back in February 2020, was met with cheers. Understandably – Pines previously served as dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, and the Smith School and the Clark School have a long, strong history of partnership.

Maryland Smith Bids Farewell to President Loh

When appointed as the University of Maryland president in 2010, Wallace Loh inspired the greater Maryland community with his challenge to “Lead Fearlessly.” Now, 10 years later, Loh is stepping down as president and entrusting future generations of Terps to continue the work he began.
