At the Smith School we have created a cluster of Centers of Excellence that serve as the intersection of scholarship and the marketplace, putting breakthrough research at the service of students and companies. Each of our centers immerses our students in complex and evolving marketplaces in which success depends on critical thinking, creativity and entrepreneurship. 

We have also added exciting new Initiatives to further augment the learning experience, align with industry and government trends, and chart the future of business.

Center for Artificial Intelligence in Business

The Center for Artificial Intelligence in Business pioneers AI research and outreach. With a focus on human judgment and creativity, it fosters safe, innovative products and services through intentional AI-enabled design and governance frameworks.

Smith Analytics Consortium

Expanding understanding of business analytics and relevant careers, the Robert H. Smith School of Business runs the Smith Analytics Consortium (SAC). A partnership between industry and Smith’s diverse, inclusive community, the Consortium serves as a central hub for networking, thought leadership, experiential learning, co-curricular activities and collaboration opportunities enhancing the Smith student experience and giving back to the business community.

The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, a top-ranked U.S. business school with Executive MBA and custom executive education programs in China, is sponsoring its second annual China Business Plan Competition.

Smith School Awarded $1.4 Million Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)

The Smith School has been awarded a four-year, $1.4 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education to fund a Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). This high honor designates the Smith School as a national resource center in international business education and research. There are only 31 CIBERs in the nation.

Smith Hosts Final Lecture in Business Ethics Series

The Business Ethics Lecture Series, sponsored by the Smith School, hosted its final speaker, Mark H. Taylor, on April 19. Taylor, who holds the John P. Begley Endowed Chair in Accounting at Creighton University, has a PhD and a CPA and is an Academic Fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Smith Team Wins the Entrepreneurs Choice Award at the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) Regionals

Capital Access Ventures, comprised of first-year Smith MBAs Mark Slusser, Anne Engebretsen, Avi Lerner, Susannah Campbell, and Karl Olson, won the Entrepreneur's Choice Award at the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) Regionals on March 2-4, 2006 in Atlanta. Earlier, the team was selected to represent the Smith School after winning an internal competition held on February 24.

Prominent Private Investor Will Help University of Maryland Business School Students and Local Entrepreneurs Develop Their Business Ideas

Dingman Center Gets into International Exchange and Hosts Dutch MBA Interns
