Amna Kirmani, the Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, was named a 2022 fellow of the Society for Consumer Psychology. Her appointment was announced at the academic and practitioner group’s annual conference on March 4.
The Fellows Award is the society’s highest honor and recognizes senior scholars who have made outstanding and unusual contributions to consumer psychology through their research and service. Kirmani, chair of the Maryland Smith’s department of marketing, is one of only three extraordinary fellows selected this year. Fellows are selected not only for their scholarly impact, but also for their institutional and field leadership.
Being chosen as a fellow goes beyond merely publishing a steady stream of relevant research – “To receive this award, a scholar’s publications must include impressive work and have an impact upon others,” according to the Society for Consumer Psychology’s selection criteria for fellows.
Kirmani’s long-term involvement in the Society for Consumer Psychology was also an important factor in her being selected a fellow. She served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the academic journal affiliated with the society.
Kirmani’s research interests include morality, persuasion knowledge, online communication and branding. Her work has been published in the top marketing journals, and her research has won top awards, including the Paul Green Award from the Journal of Marketing Research and the Maynard Award from the Journal of Marketing. She earned her PhD in marketing from Stanford University.
