Smith Day is a day that celebrates YOU! Take a minute to join in on the Smith alumni celebrations on Wednesday, November 2, from home, from your office, or at a regional event. Don’t miss an opportunity to remember the good times from your days at Smith and share those memories with fellow Smith Terps.

Don’t forget to share how you are celebrating on social media with #MarylandSmithDay. If you don’t have a social media account, you can send your photo to smithalumni@umd.edu and we’ll post it for you.

Smith Day Updates

Stay informed about the day’s activities through these special e-messages and social media posts sent leading up to Smith Day and at various points throughout the day.

Campus Celebration

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Start your celebration by stopping by the Pownall Atrium in Van Munching Hall for giveaways, activities, and the special Smith Day ice cream flavor. Activities include a scavenger hunt, trivia, a photo booth, and participating in a live Smith Day spotlight opportunity.

Also, take a minute to write a thank you note (or note of appreciation) to your favorite professor, a colleague who helped you recently, or a classmate who helped you complete a recent project.

Regional Alumni Events

Evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

What’s Testudo Doing Today?

Ever wonder what it would look like if Testudo could join you in your personal celebration of Smith Day? We do too, so here’s your chance!

Whether Testudo joins your Zoom or in-person meetings, goes to virtual class with you (or your kids), joins you on campus in class or in the Pownall Atrium in Van Munching Hall, or celebrates with you during a Smith Day activity, we want to see how you and Testudo celebrate the day.

Rub Testudo’s Nose

Stop by the most recent statue of Testudo in the Van Munching Hall courtyard to rub Testudo’s nose. While you’re there, snap a photo and share it with #MarylandSmithDay.

If you are not on campus on Wednesdays, you can still take part in this campus tradition. Before your big presentation or meeting, your online exam, or just for fun, stop by the virtual space to rub Testudo’s virtual nose.

Share Your Smith Pride

Let others know what makes you a proud Smith Terp by posting to your social media with #MarylandSmithDay throughout the day and downloading the Smith Day virtual swag.

Smith Day Scavenger Hunt

Get to know the many parts of Smith for a chance to win a prize in this new activity.

There will be four rounds for the Scavenger Hunt. Three will take place during the day of Smith Day and one will be in the evening.

  • Round One: 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
  • Round Two: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Round Three: 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
  • Round Four (Evening): 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Check-in at the Smith Day Scavenger Hunt table in the Pownall Atrium in Van Munching Hall, select which round you want to participate in, and enjoy! For the evening round, participants can check in with Smith Day staff at the Employer Desk.
