Summer Internship Program – Australia 2015

While interning “Down Under” in Melbourne, Australia, Sam Haugrud, a senior marketing major at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, celebrated the 4th of July with workplace mentors at NEAS. He is shown in this picture taking time away from his IT-based project work for NEAS to enjoy some all-American sweets like Milk Duds, Hershey Kisses and marshmallows. NEAS is a global leader in quality assurance for the English language teaching (ELT) sector. Haugrud's eight-week position there is part of Smith’s for-credit global summer internship program. 

Smith Undergrads Spend Summer in Australia

Fourteen undergraduate students are in Australia this summer as part of a 10-week program led by Mary Harms, associate clinical professor of marketing.  The first two weeks were spent in Melbourne, where the students earned three credits for an upper-level BMGT marketing course. Afterwards, Smith students began working at internships in and around Sydney.

Smith Showcases Global Initiatives

Everything that is global at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business was on colorful display outside of Van Munching Hall on May 7, 2015, for the first Smith Global Showcase organized by the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI).  Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gathered around the table displays to share stories from their undergraduate study abroad experiences this past year, while dozens more detailed the global learning they enjoyed here in College Park.

Smith Students Awaken Entrepreneurial Desires in Tibetan Youth

The Central Tibetan Administration (AKA theTibetan Government-in-exile) aims to create a more self-reliant culture among Tibetan refugees by encouraging its people to become successful entrepreneurs. Spearheading this initiative, the Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development Initiative (TED) orchestrates entrepreneurial incubators, financing support, and inspires youth entrepreneurship.  To amplify their efforts on youth entreprenreneurship, TED turned to a team of University of Maryland graduate students at the Center for Social Value Creation, Robert H. Smith School of Business.

CIBER Grant to Support Global Outreach

A new $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education will fund Smith’s Center for International Business Education and Research through 2018. The four-year award will support global enrichment opportunities for students and faculty, including continuation of the center’s annual Emerging Markets Forum. New initiatives include the launch of developmental seminars for regional businesses in 2015.

Smith Brain Trust Delivers Bite-Sized Business Insights

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 26, 2015) — Working professionals with an interest in the Washington, D.C., region have a new source for bite-sized business insights, delivered weekly to their inboxes from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Smith Brain Trust, published every Thursday, will provide commentary on the latest mergers, marketing campaigns, policy debates, investment news and business research — drawing upon the broad knowledge of the school’s faculty.
