Ever since the Oakland Athletics’ ‘Moneyball’ days, participants at the highest level of America’s national pastime have relied on statistics, looking for an edge on the competition. Now, research from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is helping Minor League Baseball players do the same.

Prospective MBA Students Attend Annual Smith Showcase

A select group of high-achievers was offered an exclusive look at life as a Smith Terp during the annual Smith Showcase, Dec. 2, 2017, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The invitation-only event was attended by 40 prospective students from across the U.S. who are being considered for admission to the Smith School’s Full-Time MBA program.

PepsiCo Slingshots Students into Full-time MBA Program

Nearly 100 full-time MBA students tackled their first real-world business challenge Aug. 23-25, 2017, during the third annual MBA Orientation Live Case Competition at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. “This competition will slingshot you into your MBA program,” said Smith School professor Neta Moye, who designed the experiential learning activity with representatives from PepsiCo. “It will ratchet up your learning curve.”

Smith MBA Students Take Team-Building Retreat

Forty-five second-year MBA students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business traveled to Maple Tree Campground in Rohrersville, Md., for a weekend of camping and team-building activities, Sept. 6-8, 2013. The students were joined by Smith faculty members Shreevardhan Lele, assistant dean of academic affairs for MBA programs and Ralph J. Tyser Distinguished Teaching Fellow of Business Administration, and Oliver Schlake, Distinguished Tyser Teaching Fellow.

The 2018 Application Trends Survey published by the Graduate Management Admission Council found that, of the schools surveyed, 70% of U.S. full-time MBA programs and more than half of U.S. part-time MBA programs saw declines in application volumes. This dip in applicants begs the question – Is taking on the responsibilities of returning to school worth the degree at the finish line?
