Executive MBA Rises in Financial Times Rankings

Executive MBA degrees at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business rank among the best worldwide, according to a Financial Times report published Oct. 20, 2014. The Executive MBA program, which caters to working professionals with significant management experience, ranked No. 11 among U.S.-based institutions and No. 44 globally. Both rankings represent growth since 2012, when the Smith School placed 13 and 51 in the same categories.

Smith Experiences Record-Setting Increase in MBA Applications

The Smith School experienced a record-setting increase of 30 percent in applications to its full time MBA program during the 2013-2014 recruiting cycle. Despite the fact that the number of GMAT test-takers has declined, indicating that interest in the MBA degree is falling somewhat nationwide, Smith remains attractive to top MBA candidates. Smith received 817 applications for 100 slots in the full-time MBA program in 2014.  The school offered admission to 28 percent of applicants, a significant improvement in selectivity from 36 percent in 2013.

Smith to Educate 600 U.S. Customs & Border Protection Leaders

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  — Starting this summer, the  University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, Office of Executive Programs, will direct the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Leadership Institute.  Under the $7.2 million, five-year agreement, Smith will educate up to 120 top-level managers each year for a total enrollment of 600. Courses will encompass strategic thinking, leadership communication, and business management to prepare them for increased levels of responsibility in CBP.

Smith School Business Summit Addresses Innovation

On March 28, 2014, at the North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, Md., students, faculty and business professionals met for the third annual Smith School Business Summit.  This year’s theme looked at innovation as an essential building block for the prosperity and survival of corporations. With more than 600 registered attendants, it was the largest Summit yet.
