The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted government, civic, and business leaders at a celebration in Van Munching Hall on Nov. 1 honoring veteran-owned businesses and the impact they have in the state of Maryland and beyond. The event was co-sponsored by the Maryland Governor’s Office of Small, Minority and Women Business Affairs; the U.S.

Earning a Smith degree spans generations in individual families. Alumni share stories with younger family members about their experiences at the school and subsequently, those relatives often end up attending Smith themselves.

Joseph B. Gildenhorn ’51, a lawyer, real estate developer and former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland who generously supported the performing arts at the University of Maryland and established its Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies, died on Saturday. He was 94 years old.

We are excited to welcome all of our new and returning students to the Robert H. Smith School of Business. This past week has been an amazing opportunity to connect with our community of students and we are excited to see what they accomplish this year.

The University of Maryland was named the top college in the nation for LGBTQ+ students by  Campus Pride and BestColleges. It leads the list of 2023’s Top 25 LGBTQ+-Friendly Colleges, recognizing educational institutions that foster inclusive and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ students. Maryland was No. 1 in 2020 and appeared among the top 25 in 2021 and 2022.

The Smith School is making way for new, more effective venues for student collaboration. Follow our progress as we work towards our goal of opening these new spaces in 2024.

Now that UMD’s School of Public Policy has moved out of Van Munching Hall for new digs across campus, the Smith School has the go-ahead from the university to take over the vacated wing of the building.

Entrepreneurs Vishal Khera, MBA ’2000, and Vanitha Khera came to the U.S. as immigrants and went on to remarkable success. Now the Kheras are making that journey possible for other Indian graduate students through their gift supporting Graduate Fellowships in Business.

Maryland Smith welcomed 85 new students into its Flex MBA and Online MBA programs this January. The new students spent a weekend participating in Smith’s opening residency program, Jan. 14-15, at Van Munching Hall in College Park, Md.
