Center for Global Business at UMD’s Robert H. Smith School of Business to Host Second Annual Event Recognizing Maryland-based Global Businesses for Innovative Pandemic-Era Pivots.

Four alumni from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business offered their perspectives on global business during the event, “Distinguished Speakers in International Business Series: Global Competencies for the 21st Century Workplace,” describing what they expect work to look like in a post-COVID-19 world, and offering advice to current students.

Maryland Smith’s Center for Global Business recently awarded six faculty grants, as part of its partnership with the CIBE Consortium for Minority-Serving Institutions and Community College (CMCC), and is accepting applications for the next round of grants.

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has recently established a partnership with Ashesi University, a private university in Accra, Ghana. This partnership will first involve a yearlong faculty development program, focused on enhancing Ashesi’s scholarship of teaching and learning. The initiative also taps Maryland Smith faculty in the top 2% of the most-cited scholars and scientists worldwide and ranked No. 16 in the University of Texas at Dallas’ Top Worldwide Business School Rankings.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sept. 20, 2021 – COVID-19 was a test like no other for global businesses. Some failed. But many others persevered, adapted – and thrived.

What is the Biden administration’s stance on global trade? What’s the status of the U.S.-Chinese trade relationship? And are things changing at the intersection between climate and trade regulations? Those were some of the topics covered in a recent discussion as the Center for Global Business (CGB) hosted a live podcast with The Trade Guys from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The talk, held Tuesday, was part of CGB’s Distinguished Speakers in International Business Series. Rebecca Bellinger, CGB executive director, and Kislaya Prasad, CGB academic director, moderated the conversation with trade experts Scott Miller, senior adviser of the Albshire-Inamori Leadership Academy, and Bill Reinsch, senior adviser and School Chair in International Business at CSIS.

How did you spend your summer vacation? Students working with Maryland Smith’s Center for Global Business have an impressive answer for that question. Maryland Smith’s Center for Global Business has been awarded the Advancing International Trade State Award by NASBITE International, the leading association for global business education, professional development and trade skills credentialing. In awarding the distinction, NASBITE applauded the center for being "instrumental in guiding many activities that have helped to develop and promote international trade in the state of Maryland.” The award will be officially presented during the group’s national conference on May 20.

The Center for Global Business (CGB) successfully closed out a fully virtual 2020-21 academic year delivering programming that continued to support its mission of being the driving force behind global learning at Maryland Smith.
