These hands-on, immersive experiences and opportunities to solve real problems for real companies help them develop critical thinking skills, greater resilience, and an ability to lead the organizations of the future. Smith has offered this type of learning—both in the classroom and beyond—for years.

The High Five: June 2023

It has been a productive year rolling out innovative programs around our new strategic plan. We’re reimagining learning with the launch of new programs in computational finance and sports management, an online business minor, and a second cohort of our blockchain accelerator for outside companies. There are more initiatives to come! Meanwhile, we’re celebrating our Silver Jubilee year – 25 years since the transformational naming gift from our benefactor Robert H. Smith ’50 – with a series of events, including the launch of our Hall of Fame with 19 inductees.

Smith Launching an Enterprise Risk Consortium

COLLEGE PARK. Md. – June 1, 2023 – An initiative targeting both industry practitioners and students to advance their knowledge and skills in risk management and to provide innovative risk analytics tools and modeling capabilities to institutions is forthcoming from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Students Across Campus Compete in Smith Analytics Consortium’s Annual Datathon

Students in 47 teams from across the University of Maryland’s campus went head to head in this year’s fourth annual Datathon – an 11-day data-focused competition hosted by the Smith Analytics Consortium at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, in collaboration with Deloitte and KPMG. The Datathon finale took place in Van Munching Hall on April 28, 2023, in front of a panel of industry judges from Deloitte and KPMG and a crowd of supporters, and awarded a total of $7,500 in cash prizes.

2023 Dean’s Honors: A Night of Visionaries and Celebration

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business honored 19 inductees at the unveiling of its Hall of Fame and showed appreciation to members of the Dean’s Circle during the inaugural Dean’s Honors event on Thursday, April 27. A joyful and enthusiastic audience composed of honorees, their friends and families, and Dean’s Circle members – a recognition society for individuals who have invested over $100,000 toward Maryland Smith in their lifetime – convened for dinner and a night of celebration at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.

Smith Names Joseph Bailey as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs

Joseph Bailey has been named Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs in the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. He has been acting in this capacity since December 2022.

The High Five: March 2023

We’re in the midst of a busy spring semester here at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. We are celebrating outstanding rankings for our online programs. We set new records for the number of master’s students who landed jobs last year and our Office of Career Services is working to help students do the same this year. We are also celebrating our excellent faculty, with 24 recently recognized among the top 2% most productive in the world. We’ve already hired four new professors to join us later this year, and we’re still recruiting others.
