Ritu Agarwal to Serve As Interim Dean
After more than 25 years of service to the University of Maryland, Alexander Triantis will step down as dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business on Aug. 14, 2019. He will be joining the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business as dean. Ritu Agarwal, the Robert H. Smith Dean’s Chair of Information Systems and senior associate dean for faculty and research, will serve as interim dean beginning Aug. 15, while the university conducts a nationwide search for a permanent successor.
Maryland Smith To Host ‘Being Black’ Speaker Series
The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland will celebrate Black History Month 2019 with a series of events featuring African American business leaders and entrepreneurs. Each week in February, Victor Mullins, Maryland Smith’s associate dean of undergraduate programs and Chief Diversity Officer, will sit down with featured guests to talk about their career paths, the challenges they’ve faced and their advice on making it in the business world.
Longbrake Pledges $1 Million to Maryland Smith
Educator, philanthropist and retired bank executive William Longbrake, DBA ’76, has pledged $1 million to support the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The unrestricted gift will provide flexibility to the school, where Longbrake serves as Executive-in-Residence and a member of the Board of Advisors.

Maryland Smith’s Supply Chain Management Pipeline Primed for Amazon H2Q
Amazon, via its Northern Virginia-based second headquarters, reportedly plans to hire about 400 workers next year and 1,180 in 2020, eventually adding 25,000 jobs. Such an outlook has helped prompt Washington Post Express to highlight Maryland Smith’s graduate programs in Supply Chain Management as a source for filling those jobs.

Maryland Smith Students to Host Winterfest Bazaar Dec. 8 at Shady Grove
Maryland Smith students in the Business Management class at the Universities of Shady Grove are staging a Winter Bazaar Crafts Fair from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Building II, Rockville. The public is invited to participate in winter-themed activities and purchase unique products from local craft creators and businesses. Participants can get their gifts wrapped and decorate holiday cards, Santa hats, stockings and dreidels. The event also includes a prize raffle and kids can take photos with Santa.

Smith School of Business to celebrate. Additional alumni gatherings took place around the United States and internationally in London and Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, China.
