Congrats to New Grads! Commencement Highlights

On Dec. 20, 2017, 778 students graduated from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The commencement ceremony was held at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Md. The entire ceremony is available online. Watch now.

Highlights from the First Smith Day!

On Nov. 15, 2017, students, faculty, staff, and alumni celebrated Smith Day, a new tradition that celebrates the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff joined the inaugural celebration in Van Munching Hall and at campuses in Shady Grove and Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C. Nearly 300 alumni attended Smith Day events at nine locations around the world, including China and the Philippines.

Smith’s Winter Commencement is Dec. 20

Join the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at 9 a.m. as we celebrate the accomplishments of business graduates at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Md. For winter commencement, tickets are not required for the Smith School ceremony or the campus-wide ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Smith School commencement ceremonies will be streamed live at www.rhsmith.umd.edu/WatchMeGraduate.

Students starting their careers should ask themselves three questions, Unilever North America President Kees Kruythoff said on Oct. 10, 2017, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. “These individual discussions can help you discover your personal purpose,” Kruythoff said during a CEO @ Smith keynote address. “People with purpose, they thrive.” “Are you making a difference?” is the first question. Kruythoff said people can define impact in different ways. “But make sure you put a high ambition level in there,” he said.

Meet Smith’s New PhD Class

The PhD Program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has welcomed 17 new PhD students, who are beginning their academic careers this fall. Their diverse backgrounds prepared them for the training and projects ahead, as they join our current PhD students and Smith’s best faculty researchers, says Robert J. Windle, director of doctoral programs and a professor in the Department of Logistics, Business and Public Policy.
